The combination of Tummy Tuck with Brazilian Butt Lift has become increasingly popular. There are advantages and disadvantages to combining these procedures, and that is what we are talking about today.
Brazilian Butt Lift with Tummy Tuck Before and After Pictures
Combining the Tummy Tuck and Brazilian Butt Lift is very rewarding, because flattening the abdomen and filling out the buttocks defies the normal aging process. The ability to remove and repurpose disproportionate abdominal wall fat is very satisfying and has provided me with many happy patients.
In the “Brazilian Tummy Tuck” before and after photos above, fat was removed from her abdominal wall, flanks and back and transferred to the buttocks. In addition, the muscles of the abdominal wall were tightened, and flabby abdominal wall skin was excised and discarded. The results speak for themselves. The abdomen is flat, the love handles are gone and the buttocks are more shapely. What does it take to achieve this look? Please read on.
Who is a Good Candidate for a Brazilian Tummy Tuck?
Now, the “Brazilian Tummy Tuck” isn’t a thing. I’m coining the term for today’s blog post, so if you are consulting with another Board Certified Plastic Surgeon for a Brazilian Tummy Tuck, they are not going to know what you are talking about. For today’s San Francisco Plastic Surgery Blog‘s purposes, the Brazilian Tummy Tuck is the combination of Abdominoplasty, Liposuction and Fat Grafting to the Buttocks.
You Must be Healthy
The most important requirement of anyone undergoing elective surgery is good health. The surgery is elective, and although the risks are small, pre-existing medical conditions, especially if they are not well controlled may be a contraindication for the procedure. If you have a medical condition, at the very least, it should be optimally controlled before having elective surgery.
You Must Have the Problems the Procedure Corrects
In the case of the Brazilian Tummy Tuck, the prerequisites are the same ones required for Abdominoplasty and Brazilian Buttocks Lift (BBL).
Abdominal wall laxity is the reason patients want a Tummy Tuck. Normally, this is laxity of the abdominal wall muscles and skin, but may also include disproportionate fat in the lower abdomen which can be processed for grafting to the buttocks.
Buttocks Atrophy and enough disproportionate fat elsewhere on the body to correct the deficit are requirements for the BBL. The most common rate limiting step is not having enough fat to do the job. Butt Greed after BBL may be more common than Boob Greed is after Breast Augmentation.
You Must Be Realistic
Not everyone gets a “perfect” result. In fact, there is always something I imagine I could do better, but surgery is not imaginary. The results above are real results, but your results will vary depending on your body, how you heal and how compliant you are with perioperative care. Some things are within our control, and some are not.
What Does the BTT Procedure Include
During the Brazilian Tummy Tuck (BTT), we are:
- Tightening loose abdominal wall muscles
- Collecting abdominal wall fat for use in the BBL
- Removing excess abdominal wall skin
- Fat Grafting to the buttocks to enhance their size and shape
- Possible harvesting of additional fat to further maximize the BBL results (e.g. back, flank, thigh or arm fat)
To Combine or Not Combine
Combining the two procedures has pros and cons. The pros are the ability to use the excess abdominal wall fat for the BBL and a single recovery period. The cons are it’s a longer procedure with more soreness since multiple body parts are involved. Also, you can’t sit in a recliner after your Tummy Tuck because you will crush your butt fat grafts flat. This means side sleeping for six weeks after surgery, or until you can tolerate sleeping on your stomach. Sometimes the best decision is to stage the procedures in two separate operations. All of your options should be discussed with your Board Certified Plastic Surgeon during your consultation appointment.
