The Tummy Tuck is one of my favorite procedures. Considered by many as the gold standard of cosmetic plastic surgery of the abdomen, Tummy Tucks are satisfying for both patient and doctor. The procedure allows me to flatten bellies for a number of different problems.
Illustrated below with before and after pictures are several examples of typical Abdominoplasty results. If you watch my TV show, Body Beautiful on the San Francisco Bay Area’s news station, KRON 4, you can hear me narrate the details of each case, including information about the recovery process for each Tummy Tuck Procedure.
Tummy Tuck Before and After Pictures
Abdominoplasty is frequently used to restore the belly to its pre-pregnancy shape. The patient below has maintained her weight and fitness throughout her pregnancy, but was still left with abdominal wall laxity. She was unhappy with her appearance and her clothes did not fit well. A Tummy Tuck was performed to flatten her belly by tightening her abdominal wall muscles, removing excess abdominal wall fat and removing excess lower abdominal skin. Her clothes fit much better after surgery, and her smile comes more easily.
More Abdominal Laxity Makes More Abdominal Roundness
An increase in abdominal wall laxity means an increase in abdominal girth. The patient below has more skin and abdominal laxity than the case above, but the treatment is similar. The excess skin and attached fat is removed from the lower abdomen, while the muscle wall is repaired directly. In this case, the rectus abdominis muscle fascia is tightened like an internal corset to provide a flatter belly.
Another Happy Tummy Tuck Patient
Every few years the patient below emails to let me know how happy she is with her Tummy Tuck Results. This is a woman who works hard to maintain her fitness level, but she was unhappy with her pre-tummy-tuck belly and was feeling hopeless about ever recovering her youthful belly. After her Tummy Tuck, she was happy right as soon as she saw her improved abdominal contour. She has maintained her results for years via a sensible diet and exercise program, as the above photo demonstrates.
More Skin Laxity Requires More Skin Removal
The patient below had both abdominal wall laxity and redundant tummy skin despite a diet and exercise program. The excess skin hung over her pants and protruded under her dresses making her quite unhappy. Abdominoplasty provided something that she could not achieve with diet and exercise alone — tighter abdominal muscle fascia and skin. After Abdominoplasty, her abdomen is flat, and her clothes fit much better.
Mini Tummy Tucks For Smaller Belly Problems
The fitness “addict” below was frustrated with the inability to get her pre-baby belly back. She worked out hard, but was left with lower abdominal skin laxity and a rounder wider central belly. A Mini Tummy Tuck was used to cinch her waist and flatten her abs. Liposuction was also used to smooth areas of disproportionate fat as indicated by the ink in the preoperative photo.
